He [Zelenskyy] puts forward an argument: what kind of Nazism can they have if he is a Jew. I may be wrong, but Hitler also had Jewish blood. It means absolutely nothing. The wise Jewish people say that the most ardent anti-Semites are usually Jews.
These incendiary comments have prompted anger in both Israel and Ukraine with Israel demanding an apology from Russia. Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy pointedly asked, “The question is, will the Israeli ambassador stay in Moscow knowing their new position? Will relations with Russia remain as usual?”
The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, has been trying to straddle a very fine line between Russia and Ukraine. But it doesn't seem to be working. Last month, Russia summoned the Israeli Ambassador after Foreign Minister Yair Lapid supported a UN resolution to remove Russia from the UN Human Rights Council. This puts Lavrov's remarks in another light.
Russia made it clear where it stood with Ukraine and now it has made clear where it stands with Israel. As such Israel should cease to be an honest broker when Russia wants no honesty and provide Ukraine with military aid including the Iron Dome defense system.
