Since returning to the White House, one of his targets for retribution has been New York Attorney General Letitia James who successfully sued Trump for business fraud last year.
Trump's DoJ began its retribution against James last month by launching an investigation into claims of mortgage fraud. However, things haven't been going according to plan. Erik Siebert, the US Attorney for Eastern Virginia, resigned on Friday after he had made it clear to DoJ officials there was insufficient evidence to pursue the investigation against James any further.
But Trump, true to form, claimed Siebert didn't quit, he was fired. Not to be outdone, Trump then appointed White House aide Lindsay Halligan as the new U.S. Attorney for Eastern Virginia. Yes, I'm sure Halligan is going to be fair and impartial. Of course, her idea of being fair and impartial is doing what Trump wants. In which case, one can only hope a grand jury will decline to recommend indictments against James as have other grand juries done in reaction to overreach by Trump's DoJ.
If President Trump wants to replace the Department of Defense with the Department of War, then I don't know why he doesn't go ahead and replace the Department of Justice with the Department of Retribution. Because Trump's pursuit of Letitia James is only about retribution and has nothing to do with justice.
