Brazilian President Lula Comparing Israel to The Nazis is Rich Considering He Embraced Holocaust Deniers

While speaking to reporters during the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva likened Israel to the Nazis:

What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people has no parallel in other historical moments. In fact, it did exist when Hitler decided to kill the Jews.

Aside from the fact that Lula's statement is defamatory and grotesque, it is also rich considering that he welcomed then Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Brazilian soil with open arms during his first tenure as President nearly 15 years ago. The following year, in 2010, Lula returned the favor by paying Ahmadinejad a visit in Tehran while also having an audience with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. That would be the same Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who both openly denied the Holocaust while advocating that Israel be wiped off the map. Any man who welcomes another who denies the Holocaust while advocating for the genocide of Jews while accusing Israel of genocide is telling us he possesses a deep-rooted hostility and hatred of Jews.

Although I welcomed the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro amid his pitiful response to COVID in 2022, I did not relish Lula's return to office. I deemed both of them a couple of Brazil nuts. Today, Lula reminded us why he is every bit as perverse as Bolsonaro who palled around with neo-Nazis notwithstanding his public support for Israel. If Lula and Bolsonaro are the best Brazil has to offer then G-d help us all.
