Domingo German's Far From Perfect Life

In late June, New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history and the first since 2012. Notwithstanding that achievement, German remains best known for assaulting his then girlfriend and now wife Maria Vega at a Yankees charity event in 2019 which resulted in a suspension which lasted through the COVID shortened 2020 season. At the time, I wrote:

On one hand, I can understand being leery towards German and wanting to shun him instead of showering praise. On the other hand, it is entirely possible that he is genuinely remorseful for what he did and will never behave in that way again and live an exemplary life. One can only hope but one never knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Well, a few days ago, the Yankees put German on the restricted list and would not pitch again this season after he engaged in violence in the team's clubhouse:

The Wall St. Journal’s Lindsey Adler reported that during Tuesday’s incident, German “wreaked havoc” on the team’s facilities.

He argued forcefully with manager Aaron Boone, “flipped a couch, smashed a TV” and dismissively made jokes as a teammate was being sent to the minors. Yankees’ staff was so concerned and frustrated they reportedly sent him to a sauna to sweat out the alcohol.

Adler also reported that German “verbally lashed out” at manager Aaron Boone, an offense that would almost certainly lead to suspension.

German, who turned 31 yesterday, is clearly not living an exemplary life and is reportedly partaking in inpatient alcohol rehab. While we have some idea of what went on behind closed doors in the Yankees clubhouse, what I fear is given his propensity towards violence against his wife is what could happen behind closed doors once he returns home.
