On Friday afternoon, Boston City Councilor Kendra Lara crashed the automobile which she was driving into a house on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. Her son Zaire had to be taken to hospital due to profuse bleeding above his left eye which required stitches.
Boston PD filed a child neglect report with the Massachusetts Department of Child and Family Services against Lara as Zaire was not inside a federally mandated child booster seat. Lara will also make an appearance in court in West Roxbury on Wednesday as she was driving with a revoked license as well as operating both an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle.
Councilor Lara first came to my attention a little over a year ago when she tweeted, "ya’ll are letting the Zionists SHAKE YOU DOWN. phew!" in response to a court ruling in Arkansas upholding that state's anti-BDS statute.
While these incidents are completely separate and unrelated, they do demonstrate the behavior of an individual unfit for public office. Kendra Lara harbors bigotry towards Jews, has shown a blatant disregard for the law while endangering her son causing him injury. She has shown herself to be reckless and irresponsible.
Lara ought to do the honorable thing and resign from Boston City Council or not seek re-election later this year. Should Lara fail to take either course of action then someone in Boston's 6th District ought to mount a challenge against her. In which case, I hope the voters in the 6th District will elect a more suitable candidate to represent them. However, should they re-elect Lara, this will mean the voters have chosen to look the other way just as many Republicans have done with Donald Trump.
