House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is shocked, shocked that Liz Cheney would accept House Speaker's Nancy Pelosi appointment of her to the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol.
I cannot fathom why McCarthy would be shocked. Of course, perhaps his head is so far up Donald Trump's ass that he is completely divorced from all reality and really couldn't see it coming. But Cheney has drawn a line in the sand and hasn't deviated so much as a millimeter where it concerns the events of January 6th.
Perhaps he is afraid that Cheney will see fit to call him as a witness and question him about his phone conversation with the former President who infamously told him the rioters were more upset about the election than he was. Not only should this not shock him, but McCarthy had better damn well be prepared.
After all, McCarthy can appoint five Republicans to the Select Committee and he sure wasn't going to pick Cheney. So Pelosi did it for him.
In so doing, it takes away McCarthy's ability to call the committee partisan. Maybe a 9/11 Style Commission isn't looking so bad after all.
