Biden Takes One Step Forward on COVID; Texas & Mississippi Take Two Steps Back

Today marked both good news and bad news where it concerns COVID-19.

We took one step forward when President Biden announced that COVID vaccines will be available to every American adult by Memorial Day. Much of this was expedited by Biden's announcement that Merck would joining forces with Johnson & Johnson to manufacture its vaccine.

Unfortunately, we took two steps back when Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, both Republicans, lifted all COVID-19 restrictions including mask mandates and limits on capacity in business establishments. Mississippi's restrictions end tomorrow while Texas will lift its restrictions next week. Mind you, hundreds of thousands of residents in both states are still without running water

While more Americans will be receiving COVID vaccines there will likely be yet another surge in COVID cases especially when one considers Texas is the second most populous state in the Union. All of which means more dead Americans from COVID-19. Sadly, for far too many people in this country half a million deaths is nothing to be concerned about. For them, it's like it never even happened.

The Biden Administration will eventually conquer COVID-19. It's just that certain Republican Governors are seeing to it that this triumph is delayed. Chances are more Republican Governors will join them in the coming days. A few steps back could turn into giant leap backwards.
