Democratic Response from Senator Slotkin: Don't Tune Out

In contrast to President Trump's 100-minute address to a joint session of Congress, freshman Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin's Democratic response was a pithy 10-minutes.

Unlike Alabama Republican Senator Katie Britt last year, Slotkin's response will not become a SNL skit

While this wasn't the Gettysburg Address, Slotkin did nothing to harm herself.

Her main message to voters was "Don't Tune Out!!!"

Slotkin encourage voters to hold elected officials accountable (herself included) by attending town hall meetings and getting involved with groups to organize around a single issue and, if one can't find such a group, to start their own. It was a very basic message, but a positive one well worth hearing.

The question is how many people actually heard Slotkin's message.

It might not be a question of not tuning out, but of not tuning in. Given the length of Trump's speech, how many people stayed up past 11 p.m. EST to listen to Slotkin - even if it was for only 10 minutes?

With that said, Slotkin worked with what she had and made the best use of her time. Now will we make the best use of our time?
