With Trudeau Resigning as Liberal Party Leader, Canada Should Get a Conservative Government by May

Today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he would step down as leader of the Liberal Party amid pressure to vacate 24 Sussex Drive.

Trudeau also requested that Governor General Mary Simon prorogue parliament until March 24th to give Liberals time to select a new party leader and new Prime Minister which she granted.

When Canada's House of Commons reconvenes on March 24th, the new Prime Minister will present a throne speech. After which the Tories will introduce a non-confidence motion which will be supported by the NDP and the Bloc Quebecois. That is unless, the new Prime Minister makes the NDP and/or the Bloc an offer they cannot refuse. But given how toxic the Liberals are to most Canadians this is an unlikely scenario.

Barring a lifeline for the Liberals, the government will fall forcing elections which would need to take place within 37 to 51 days provided it falls on a Monday. I predict the election will take place on May 12th - one week before Victoria Day.

Unless Pierre Poilievre and the Tories embark upon a campaign of sheer stupidity, Canadians will elect them to a massive majority government. In which case, I think Poilievre will be sworn in as Canada's 25th Prime Minister.

And within a few short months, Canadians will realize the new emperor has nothing to wear but will be stuck with him for four years as he mollycoddles Donald Trump.
