Today, the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States has topped 375,000. According to Johns Hopkins University, the COVID-19 death toll in the U.S. stands at 375,838 with more than 22.5 million cases (22,575,895). This represents a mortality rate of 1.7%.
Of the 375,000 plus COVID-19 deaths, 100,000 of them have come since December 5, 2020. That is a grand total of 39 days. To put that number in further perspective it took 46 days to go from a death toll of 250,000 to 350,000. It took one week less to get from 275,000 deaths to 375,000 deaths than it did to get from 250,000 to 350,000 deaths. Over the past 39 days, there have been more than 8.5 million new COVID-19 cases.
To further add to the depressing news is that fact it took 8 days to go from 350,000 to 375,000 deaths. Which probably means we will top the 400,000 mark by January 19th - the day before Donald Trump is due to leave the White House.
Naturally, in recent days there has been less talk of COVID-19 despite all the death. The reasons for it are every bit as frightening as COVID-19 itself. We are less than a week removed from an attempted insurrection with no guarantee of a peaceful transfer of power in 9 days time.
Chances are Joe Biden will be sworn into office. But there is likely to be a violent resistance in place prepared to carry out terrorist attacks in the name of Trump. So if COVID-19 doesn't get you then the Trump terrorists might instead.
