Actress Kirstie Alley, best known for playing Rebecca Howe on Cheers from 1987 to 1993, passed away today after recently being diagnosed with cancer. She was 71.
In addition to Cheers, Alley is also remembered for her appearance in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the Look Who's Talking movies with John Travolta. She also starred in the NBC sitcom Veronica's Closet.
In recent years, Alley has appeared most on reality TV series such as Kirstie Alley's Big Life, Dancing With The Stars as well as Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K.
When Alley joined the cast of Cheers in its sixth season she had the unenviable task of replacing the beloved Shelley Long's Diane Chambers. While she didn't have same kind of chemistry with Ted Danson which Long had she still fit into the ensemble and the show kept chugging along. I leave you with Alley accepting an Emmy for her portrayal of Rebecca Howe in 1991. R.I.P.
