From the beginning I had a bad feeling that protesters would sully George Floyd's name by vandalizing houses of worship.
Of course, there was the arson which took place at St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.'s Lafayette Park. Just over 100 miles south of a 200-year old church, a protester vandalized a 230-year old synagogue in Richmond, Virginia by throwing a brick through its entrance. Congregation Beth Ahabah, a Reform synagogue was founded in 1789. Meanwhile, several synagogues, kosher grocery stores and other Jewish businesses in Los Angeles were vandalized.
Black Lives Matter has a deep antipathy towards Israel. Indeed, it was the only country the Black Lives Matter Manifesto saw fit to criticize accusing it of genocide. Given this antipathy is it really a stretch to imagine a BLM supporter would spray paint, "Fuck Israel!!!" on a synagogue?
One need not support Black Lives Matter to be appalled by what happened to George Floyd or for that matter Philando Castile, Breonna Taylor and David McAtee among many other African-Americans to have their lives snuffed out by police.
But so long as Black Lives Matter insists on an anti-Semitic ideology and carrying out anti-Semitic acts then I cannot give them my support.
