On Thursday night, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar formally took herself out of the running to be Joe Biden's running mate and urged that he select a woman of color.
Let's be brutally honest here. Klobuchar's chances of becoming Biden's running mate ended the day George Floyd was murdered as it drew unwanted attention to her prosecutorial record and, specifically, her failure to rein in Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer principally responsible for ending Floyd's life.
Klobuchar had no other card to play other than to fall on her sword.
Now I make the case with the understanding there are those who believe she didn't fall on her sword, but rather stabbed Elizabeth Warren in the back. This is a plausible scenario, but I think it is far more likely that a senior Biden official (possibly Biden himself) indicated he would be picking a woman of color as his running mate. In which case this would also take Warren out of the running.
I think it is abundantly clear that Biden will pick an African-American female running mate. Now it is only a question of whom. As for Klobuchar, she is merely attempting to embrace the idea as if it were her own and save face with the African-American community and be rewarded with a Cabinet position namely Attorney General.
