Rockies Sweeping Marlins Marks Highlight of Dismal Season

The Colorado Rockies have had virtually nothing to cheer about in 2025.

That is until they swept the Miami Marlins in three games on the road. It was the first time the Rockies had swept any team in over a year.

The sweep improves the Rockies to 12-50 this season.

You read that right.

12-50.

With 100 games left to play, the Rockies entered today 25 games back of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Not only that, but the Rockies are 19½ games back of the fourth place Arizona Diamondbacks.

Their current winning percentage is .194 which is more than .40 points worse than that of the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics who recorded a .235 winning percentage en route to a 36-117 record more than a century ago.

Assuming the Rockies maintain this putrid pace, they would finish the season with a record of 31-131.

The 2025 Colorado Rockies could make the 2024 Chicago White Sox look like the 1927 New York Yankees.

The Rockies began the season 7-33 before the team cut ties with manager Bud Black. Prior to the 3-game sweep of the Marlins, the Rockies had gone 2-17 under interim manager Warren Schaeffer.

The team is off tonight. Tomorrow, the Rockies host a 3-game series against the New York Mets who are currently atop the NL East.

The worst is yet to come.

It Doesn't Matter Whether Trump & Musk are Friends or Foes

(Getty Images)

There are a great many people who are amused by this "feud" between President Trump and Elon Musk.

I am not among them.

Oh, if they want to fight each other then let them. Better that they turn their attention to each other than to us.

But whether they are friend or foe, Donald Trump is still the President of the United States and Elon Musk is still the richest man in the world.

They have already done great damage to this country and the aftershocks of that damage will be felt for years to come.

Our federal government has been hollowed out.

Our civil liberties have been compromised and eroded.

People are going to lose their Medicaid.

Our economy has been destabilized.

We are less safe and secure.

Trump and Musk can disavow each other all they want. They worked together to harm this country.

And they could always work together again.

Before Musk left the White House, let's remember that Trump declared "he's not really leaving" and that he will be "back and forth" to the Oval Office.

I believe Trump and Musk will kiss and make up. Perhaps even by next week.

Should this come to pass, it will be yet another blip in the second Trump presidency.

Before you know it, there will be a third Trump presidency, Constitution or no Constitution.

Thoughts on The Squad's "Condemnation" of the Anti-Semitic Terrorist Attack in Boulder

In the wake of the anti-Semitic terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, it is worth examining the response of the core members of The Squad namely Democratic Congresswomen Ayaana Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib.

In the context of this specific attack, I shall pair Omar and Tlaib in one subgroup with AOC and Pressley in the other.

Omar and Tlaib's responses can be characterized as boilerplate:

Omar: I’m holding the victims and families in Boulder, Colorado in my heart. Violence against anyone is never acceptable. We must reject hatred and harm in all its forms.

Tlaib: The violent attack in Boulder is horrific. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. Violence has no place in our communities.

Nothing in either Omar nor Tlaib's statement acknowledges the fact that the victims were Jewish and that the perpetrator was motivated by his hatred of Jews. In the case of Omar, the only reason she put out a statement was due to the fact that she refused to comment on the shooting of two Israeli Embassy staff at the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C. last month. If one is unwilling acknowledge there are Jewish victims and a perpetrator motivated by anti-Semitism, perhaps it is best if Omar said nothing at all. Ditto for Tlaib.

In the case of AOC and Pressley, however, both acknowledge anti-Semitism as the motivation for the attack:

AOC: I am horrified by last night’s horrific attack in Boulder. My heart is with the victims and our Jewish communities across the country. Antisemitism is on the rise here at home, and we have a moral responsibility to confront and stop it everywhere it exists.

Pressley: The antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado is horrifying and unacceptable. Violence against innocent people is never the answer. It will never bring justice for anyone and we must do everything to root it out. I pray for the victims, their loved ones, and everyone impacted.

While AOC and Pressley's statements are a cut above those of Omar and Tlaib, they remain insufficient.

AOC's comments drew the ire of former MLB player Kevin Youkilis, who is Jewish. Youkilis, who played the majority of his 10-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, stated AOC's word held no weight with him and demanded action:

Jews are targeted with violence and it’s the same virtue signal post time and time again.

What have you done to confront those calling for intifadas in NYC? Until you create a plan of action, your repeated virtue signaling after the violence occurs holds no weight.

Confront the radical mobs chanting for intifadas in NYC. That would be brave leadership, but we know politicians, on both sides of the aisle, shy away in fear of losing votes and power.

At the very minimum, AOC ought to resign her membership with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) (as I have argued) given that several of its factions have praised Hamas attack against Israel and the Capital Jewish Museum shooting. It is only a matter of time before DSA praises the Boulder attack.

It would also help if AOC and Pressley refrained from making defamatory statements such as accusing Israel of genocide. Statements such as these which motivate the attacks which have taken place in Boulder and in D.C. It is hard to for someone to decry anti-Semitism seriously when that someone sees fit to engage in anti-Semitism.

Terrorist Shouting "End Zionists" & "Free Palestine" Wounds 6 People with Molotov Cocktails in Boulder, Colorado

A group of approximately 30 people in Boulder, Colorado walking in solidarity for the Israeli hostages held by Hamas were attacked by a man lobbing Molotov cocktails wounding at least six people with one person in critical condition

The perpetrator, who was taken into custody, has been identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman who shouted, "Free Palestine" and "End Zionists!!!" while holding two Molotov cocktails. Soliman is an Egyptian national who allegedly overstayed his visa.

The FBI is characterizing the incident as "an act of terror". So too is Colorado Democratic Governor Jared Polis while Colorado Democratic Senator Michael Bennet (who is running for Governor) called it "a horrifying terror attack."

However, Boulder PD chief Steve Redfearn claims it is too early to speculate upon a motive. While I can understand law enforcement acting with an abundance of caution, when your suspect shouts "End Zionists" after lobbing Molotov cocktails at a group gathering in solidarity with the hostages, I think the motive has been made loud and clear. I am sure such an attack was intended to dissuade such gatherings in the future thus making it an act of terror.

The attack comes only 11 days after two Israeli Embassy staffers were shot and killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. by a man who said he did so for Palestine and for Gaza

Boulder is one of many communities which participates in the Run for Their Lives march in solidarity with the hostages. Consider this excerpt from their website:

Well, the people involved in Boulder didn't protest, were being polite and peaceful and focused on the humanity of the hostages.

And yet they were attacked anyway.

I have no doubt that those who called the murder of the two Israeli Embassy staffers an act of resistance will similarly praise today's attack in Boulder.

One can only hope that the next Run for Their Lives march in Boulder will have a lot more than 30 people participating in it. The same can be said for other Run for Their Lives marches around the country and the world.

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst Proves Yet Again That Republicans Aren't Really Pro-Life

As you might know by now, Iowa Republican Senator Joni Ernst was confronted during a town hall on Friday regarding her defense of cuts to Medicaid. When an audience member shouted out that "people are going to die" as a result of said cuts, Senator Ernst contemptuously stated with a smirk on her face, "We're all going to die," to which the audience booed and jeered

The backlash notwithstanding, Ernst doubled down by making an "apology" video in a cemetery in which she sardonically advised people seeking eternal life to embrace Jesus Christ.

Ernst's remarks are reminiscent of those of Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick who during the early days of COVID in April 2020 said that "there were more important things than living" like reopening the economy.

At the time, I made the case that conservatives aren't really pro-life or, at the very minimum, very selective about it:

Last night Texas Republican Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick told Tucker Carlson "there are more important things than living" whilst defending the Lone Star State's decision to reopen its economy this Friday. Less than a month ago, Patrick made headlines when he suggested he and others over 70 would be willing to die to get the economy going again.

Mind you this is the same Lt. Gov who scarcely two years ago blamed abortion and video games for gun violence claiming, "We live in a violent country where we've devalued life."

Considering the fact that COVID-19 has, as of this writing, infected more than 20,000 Texans while claiming the lives of more than 500 people, it is clear to me that Patrick who is guilty of devaluing life.

The same can be said for Ernst. While Ernst laments the loss of life of those who are murdered by illegal immigrants she has no such compassion for those who will lose their life as a result of the Medicaid cuts which she supports. Indeed, she revels in her contempt for people in need of Medicaid.

Unfortunately, Ernst will probably get away with such contempt and can afford to make snarky "apology" videos. While Ernst is up for re-election next year, Iowa has become a reliably pro-Trump, Republican state. Her 2020 race against Theresa Greenfield was expected to be a nail-biter, but Ernst won by 6.5 points despite a poor debate performance against Greenfield.

While Democrats can and must remind voters of Ernst's words regarding Medicaid cuts, there remains a very good chance that it won't be enough.

But the next time a Republican tells you that he or she is pro-life please remind them that Joni Ernst doesn't think very much of your life if you are in need of Medicaid.

Democratic Socialists of America Should Expel Factions Which Praise Those Who Murder Jews

A few days ago, a faction of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) praised the murder of two Israeli Embassy employees last week outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. while demanding the release of Elias Rodriguez, the man responsible for killing the pair and describing him as a "political prisoner."

The DSA Liberation Caucus endorsed a statement which reads:

For its part, the DSA's national organization rejected this view stating:
Democratic Socialists of America seek to democratically transform our society and reject vigilante violence. We condemn the murder of Israeli embassy workers. Any statement otherwise is not the stance of DSA.

Nonsense.

If it is not the stance of the DSA, then why does it permit the Liberation Caucus affiliate within its organization?

It is well worth remembering that following the October 7th attacks, the New York DSA chapter held a rally in Times Square praising Hamas for killing Jews. While it subsequently apologized for the rally, the NY DSA still refused to condemn Hamas.

If the DSA truly rejected anti-Semitic terrorism against Jews, it would root out those who support anti-Semitic terrorism against Jews in the name of the DSA from its ranks.

Pressure also ought to be brought to bear against the likes of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani who remain members in good standing with the Democratic Socialists of America. Why do they associate with an organization which tolerates those who praise the killers of Jews?

The saddest of thing of all is that DSA used to be pro-Israel including the likes of prominent American socialists like Michael Harrington and Bayard Rustin.

Sadly, those days are gone and will never come back.

Nevertheless, the DSA should be shamed for tolerating anti-Semitic terrorism and so should elected officials who see fit to retain their DSA memberships.

I Hope the Edmonton Oilers Can Win the Stanley Cup for Both Canada & Alberta

Over the years, I have lamented about the Stanley Cup drought for Canadian based hockey teams including the Edmonton Oilers falling to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup last year despite forcing a Game 7 after trailing 3-0.

Now the Oilers and Panthers will have a Stanley Cup rematch starting Wednesday night in Edmonton.

The fact that no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup for 32 years looms large. But given the current political climate in Canada as a result of a Florida Man coveting it as the 51st state and the fomenting of Alberta separatism by Premier Danielle Smith in the wake of the Liberal re-election last month, this Stanley Cup takes on a whole other meaning.

This was, of course, evident during the Four Nations Face-Off back in February in which Canada bested the United States on an OT goal by Oilers center Conor McDavid. I have no doubt similar passions shall arise.

Should the Oilers triumph, it will boost not only Canadian pride but boost Albertan pride in Canada. There will be no Western alienation to be found despite the efforts of the provincial government.

In the meantime, elbows up.
