During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hastily arranged visit to the White House yesterday, President Trump revealed that his administration has begun direct talks with Iran.
I cannot say this surprises me a great deal. If the Trump Administration has seen fit to talk directly with Hamas it isn't a stretch that it would seek to talk with its masters in Tehran?
Indeed, Steve Witkoff, who has led the talks with Hamas, will lead the talks with Iran.
Given how complimentary Witkoff has been with Hamas and his indications Hamas will remain in Gaza, how long it will be before he says nice things about the Iranian regime and how they ought to remain in power?
Perhaps the Iranian regime will get a boost from Trump himself as Turkish dictator Erdogan did even going so far as telling Netanyahu he would need to be "reasonable" with him.
I'm sure Netanyahu and the Israeli government were aware the Trump Administration had been engaging directly with Iran. It's bad enough that Trump is saddling Israel with tariffs and will not remove them despite the fact that Israel has removed theirs, but he is also giving Israel's enemies Hamas, Turkey and now Iran legitimacy.
