Ohio Voters Elect Democrat Amy Acton as Governor & Return Sherrod Brown to Senate

With 87% of the vote counted, Ohio voters have elected Amy Acton to be their next Governor. Acton earned 50.9% of the vote compared to 45.7% for Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.

It is the first time Ohio voters have elected a Democratic Governor since Ted Strickland in 2006. For the context of this race, Ramaswamy went out of his way to display his indecency as compared to Acton's commitment to public service during the COVID pandemic.

Ohio voters have also returned Sherrod Brown to the Senate. Brown lost his Senate seat to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024. With 87.3% of the vote counted, Brown earned 48.6% versus 46.5% of the vote of Jon Husted who succeeded now Vice-President JD Vance in the Senate.

In recent years, Ohio had become a reliable red state. At least for the moment, Buckeye voters have told Republicans to buck off.
