With Apologies to Blue Jays Fans, The Better Team Always Wins

I know we are four days removed from the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the World Series and more than 48 hours removed from their World Series parade. But I do wish to briefly comment on the observations of former MLB catcher and current Toronto Blue Jays analyst Caleb Joseph following the Jays' Game 7 loss on Saturday night. First here is what Joseph said:

This is going to sound like sour grapes, but I don't give a shit. I think the better team did not win this Series. I think the Blue Jays are the better team and I think they played baseball a certain way that was infectious, that grabbed the attention of the fans and it's disheartening to see the better team did not win. And that's not to take anything away from the Dodgers. But the Blue Jays did so many things correct. They did so many things right.

With that, I come not to bury Caleb Joseph. After all, his comments were a product of passion over reason. One could see a man on the verge of tears. Indeed, I share his disappointment at the outcome.

But when one chooses reason over passion then one can only conclude the better team always wins and, in this case, it was the Dodgers. I would add the Dodgers were better than the Blue Jays by only an inch. But every inch counts.

The Blue Jays came within two outs of a World Series title. But you have to get those final two outs. Members of both the 1986 Boston Red Sox and the 2011 Texas Rangers could tell you that you have to get that final strike.

So, with apologies to Blue Jays fans, the better team always wins. Perhaps next year will be their year.
